24th AU Summit ends with strong call for women Empowerment in Africa as a step towards achieving the goals of Agenda 2063
The 24th Session of the Summit of the African Union, held in Addis Ababa, concluded on January 31, 2015. According to a press release issued by the African Union, it concluded with closing remarks from the newly elected Chairperson of the African Union and President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, H.E Robert Mugabe.
In his remarks, the AU Chairperson has been noted expressing satisfaction to the adoption of the AU Agenda 2063 framework. He announced: “We have rededicated ourselves to the Pan-African ideals of our founding fathers for the Africa we want.”
Further, President Mugabe was noted calling on the AU Member States to implement all the decisions adopted during the summit, underscoring how “it is the only way for African states to leverage their resources for the benefits of their people.” Additionally, emphasizing on the theme of this year’s summit: women empowerment and development towards agenda 2063, it has been stated that the Chairperson confirmed, “Women and youth are the greatest asset for Africa”.
