The 2016 Vice Presidential candidate of the opposition News Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia last week Thursday spewed out what seemed to have been the plight and frustrations of many Ghanaians as he told President John Mahama that Ghanaians were tired of ‘wahala’ (hardship) he and his governing National Democratic Congress had unleashed on them.
Dr. Bawumia led scores of NPP bigwigs, supporters and former appointees in the Upper East Region in an overwhelming peaceful demonstration dubbed; La wu ne tume which literally means ‘we are suffering’ and later addressed them at the Jubilee Park in Bolgatanga last week. He said mismanagement of the economy and corruption in the present government brought about the prevailing hardship on Ghanaians.
Though his message was short after two hours of a long-winded match through the prime streets of Bolgatanga, Dr. Bawumia was insistent that the NPP under the Presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would provide a better alternative government which would restore hope in Ghanaians and the economy would be rejuvenated.
At the St. John’s Park were demonstrators converged before the set off, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia criticized President John Mahama and his appointees for always jumping to respond and condemn every lecture or public statement he made as well as his good economic suggestions, yet they did not have any better alternative to address the country’s economy crisis.
He therefore appealed to the Ghanaian electorate to elect Nana Akufo-Addo in the next year’s elections to bring hope, economic restoration and prudent management.
Deputy Minority leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Dominic Nitiwul also took a swipe at President John Mahama accusing him of neglecting the north even though he made promises to the people of Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions in the run-up to the 2012 general elections.
National Organizer, John Buadu, National NASARA Coordinator, Kamal-Din Abdallah, National Youth Organizer Samuel Awuku and the Deputy and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako were some of the executives of the party who took part in the demonstration. Others were the Northern Regional Chairman, Bugri Naabu and his Upper West counterpart, Alhaji Short.
The demonstrators carried placards some which red: ‘more wahala under John Mahama’, ‘Bolga-Bawku road zero’, ‘no jobs for youth’ and ‘John Mahama will go in 2016’.
