In Ivory Coast, President Alassane Ouattara was declared winner of a controversial third term on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Ouattara initially said he would not run again this year but changed his mind and “maintains that the country’s two-term limit for presidents does not apply to him because of a constitutional referendum passed in 2016 allowed him to run again by resetting term limits”. Ouattara’s main opposition candidates, Henri Konan Bedie and Pascal Affi N’Guessan, contend the third term “breaches the country’s two-term presidential limit”.
